No Fishing License Needed for Foreigners!

As a foreign national, you do NOT need a Polish fishing license card (karta wędkarska). You only need a valid PZW permit — which we purchase for you. Just show your passport and our permit at the water.

How to Get There

Mazury is easy to reach from anywhere in Europe.

By Plane

Fly to Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW). From Warsaw, it's approx. 3.5 hours by car or bus to Mazury. Budget airlines like Ryanair and Wizz Air operate frequent flights.

By Car

From Berlin: ~6 hours via A2/S7. From Warsaw: ~3.5 hours via S7/S61. Roads are well-maintained. Free parking available at most lakes and marinas.

Plan your route

By Train

Take an Intercity train from Warsaw to Ełk or Giżycko (~4 hours). From there, local buses connect to lakeside towns. FlixBus also operates direct routes.

Getting Around

Rent a boat at local marinas to explore the lakes. Car rental available in Giżycko and Mikołajki. Bike rentals are popular for exploring the countryside.

Best Fishing Seasons

Spring (Apr–May)

Pike post-spawn feeding frenzy. Perch in shallow bays. Best time for shore fishing.

Summer (Jun–Aug)

Zander active at dawn and dusk. Boat fishing on deep lakes. Trolling season peaks.

Autumn (Sep–Nov)

Trophy pike season! Aggressive feeding before winter. Best time for big fish.

Winter (Dec–Mar)

Ice fishing on frozen lakes. Perch and pike through the ice. Unique experience!

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes! Many Masurian lakes have accessible shores and public piers. Shore fishing is especially productive in spring when pike hunt in shallow bays.

A spinning rod is essential for pike and zander. Bring a feeder rod for bream and carp. Popular lures: spinnerbaits, soft plastics, and crankbaits. Check our species section for size recommendations.

The main towns are Giżycko, Mikołajki, and Ruciane-Nida — all with hotels, guesthouses, and lakeside camping. Agritourism farms offer the most authentic experience.

Spring (April–May) after the closed season, when pike feed aggressively in shallow waters. Autumn (September–November) is trophy season — the biggest pike are caught before winter. See our seasons section for details.

Pike over 100 cm are caught every year. Zander regularly reach 70+ cm. The Masurian lakes hold some of Poland's biggest freshwater fish records.
